WORD MAGIC c<}omes with a disk formatting command for your use. See the Atari or Disk drive manual for details on disk formatting using ATA=}RI DOS 2.0S. Also, it is recommended that you make a backup copy of your WORD MAGIC master disk using the (J) command of ATAR>}I DOS 2.0S. Never use your WORD MAGIC master disk, keep it in a safe place and use your backup copies. WORD MAGIC AND GRAPHIC?} MAGIC ARE COVERED BY THE COPYRIGHT LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. We have provided this Program without copy protecti@}on for your convenience, please respect our rights as we have respected yours.1.5.2WORD MAGIC is a simple yet powerful worA}d processing program which has many features not found in any other system. GRAPHIC MAGIC combines with WORD MAGIC to allow fB}or the integration of graphics with text. Pictures from most drawing programs can be read by GRAPHIC MAGIC and converted to pC}icture files. A picture file created by GRAPHIC MAGIC can be used by WORD MAGIC. With a simple command used in WORD MAGIC, thD}ese picture files can be inserted in any document and then printed.1.5.3SUGGESTION: (format two disks now, before enteringE} the program).1.5.4Turn on the disk drive, if it is not already on, insert the WORD MAGIC program disk in the disk drive #F} 1, with 'WORD MAGIC' facing up.1.5.5NOTE: (Atari 400 or 800 - remove basic cartridge). In WORD MAGIC pressing the (H) key will display the help files on the command being pointeP}d to. The file, HLPFIL.WP must be in drive # 1 for this to work. It is recommended that this file be copied to all disks you Q}are going to use with WORD MAGIC. If a document is to be edited or corrected, it must first be in the computers memory.R} This is done by typing in the complete document, or reading a file from the disk into memory. After changes are made to a doS}cument, the altered file must be saved to the disk by using the SAVE FILE command. If this is not done, there will be no recoT}rd of the changes made. It is important to note that the file must be written to disk before selecting the PRINT FILE commandU}. The PRINT FILE command prints from a disk file, not from what was last changed inside the computer. If you attempt to printV} a file that has been altered but not saved to disk, a message will be displayed, warning you that the file in memory is abouW}t to be lost. You will be given a chance to change your mind.2.1.3EDIT FILE The EDIT FILE command is used to create nX}ew files, or display the current file in memory and allow changes to be made. To create a new file, move the pointer to Y}EDIT FILE and press return. When the command EDIT FILE is given, the bottom three lines of the screen will display all Z}the status information about the editing in progress. The file name of the last file used, if you are in overstrike or insert[} mode, the current column position of the cursor and the amount of room remaining in memory will be displayed. You can use th\}e insert key (while holding down the control key) to switch from insert mode to overstrike mode. The word (insert) means, tha]}t as new characters are typed, all characters to the right of the cursor will be moved to the right. The word (over)strike me^}ans, text on the screen will be overwritten as new characters are entered from the keyboard.2.1.4READ FILE When this _}command is selected, the files on disk drive #1 will be displayed and a file name will be requested. Type the file name you w`}ish to read from the disk drive and press RETURN. The file will be loaded from the disk drive to memory. After loading, your a}file will be displayed on the screen. Full screen editing is possible, including insert, delete, overstrike etc. There is no b}need to change modes, just do whatever you like.2.1.5SAVE FILE When this command is selected, the files on disk drivec} #1 will be displayed and a file name will be requested. Enter the file name you wish to give your text. Press return, and thd}e text will be saved to the disk. If the file name already exist, the old file will be written over by the new file.2.2.1Te}EXT EDITING COMMANDS All text editing commands, not already on the keys, are selected by using the OPTION and SELECT kef}ys as if they were a shift key on a typewriter, and by using the START key as a confirmation key. The following is a descriptg}ion of the commands available. Try all the commands and you will see how easy they are to use.2.2.2SELECT KEY commandh}s. The SELECT key, when held like a shift key, controls all the optional cursor commands available. To use these commandi}s, hold the SELECT key down while striking the desired function character. Each number has a predefined speed. Hitting anyn} other key will stop the scrolling. The number 1 is the slowest speed, 3 is the fastest.2.3.1OPTION KEY commands. Theo} OPTION key is used for the remainder of the functions. It is used like the SELECT key, that is, hold it down while striking p}the corresponding function key.2.3.2OPTION + S SEARCH FUNCTION. A prompt, asking for a character, or string of charq}acters will appear. Enter the search character, or string, and press RETURN. The UP ARROW (CONTROL + (-) ) CAN BE USED IN THEr} STRING AS A FILLER OR WILD CARD. This file will be read from the disk and inserted at the cursor pos}ition. The progress is displayed on the screen.2.3.10CURSOR CONTROL WHILE EDITING. When working in a file, the cursor} is controlled using the CONTROL + ARROW keys together. Also, a joystick or track-ball in port #1 can be used to move the cur}sor on the screen. When using this feature, the fire button may be pressed to slow down the cursor movements.2.3.11DELETE }CHARACTER. Use back space key to delete the character to the left of the cursor.2.3.12DELETE CHARACTER UNDER CURSOR.} Use CONTROL + DELETE to delete the character at the current cursor position.2.3.13DELETE LINE. Use SHIFT + DELET}E to delete the line the cursor is on.2.3.14DELETE ALL. Use SHIFT + CLEAR to clear the file currently being edited. A} message will be displayed asking if this is what you really want to do, if so strike the start key. The screen will go blank} showing the deletion.2.3.15TAB. When entering text, there is a 25 character type ahead buffer to} assure that no key strokes are lost. The display will always keep the data compacted into the most efficient form. This can }slow the display slightly at times, but WORD MAGIC will remember your key strokes and catch up quickly. This feature can be h}andy when entering a series of familiar commands and you get ahead of the prompts.2.3.17ROOM LEFT. If the ROOM LEFT c}ounter gets to 0, no more text can be entered. The error message, NO ROOM will flash if you attempt to enter more text. Chara}cters may be lost from the current line when this happens. It is recommended that the document be split into multiple files j}ust before this occurs. There is room in memory for 10 to 25 pages of text, so this is only going to happen on very long file}s.2.3.18ERROR REPORTING. All error messages are displayed in reverse video, in the lower right corner of the screen. }Error messages are in English, not cryptic codes and are either self explanatory or described in the ATARI DOS manual.2.4.1}PRINT FORMATTING. The WORD MAGIC program supports many different print formatting commands. These can be inserted into }a document, at any place, to change the printing style. The CONTROL KEY + the letters A-Z are used. If a number value is need}ed for the command, such as the left indent amount, then the number should be typed, without holding down the control key, im}mediately after the control key character. If a number is used in the command, it must be followed by something other than a }number. If a number must appear immediately after the formatting command, the end comment command, described in section 2.3.8}, (OPTION + ] ) works very well. The following commands are supported by the WORD MAGIC program.2.4.2PRINT FORMATTING COM}MANDS.
